Software Reviews of Adobe Acrobat Professional 9 Upgrade from Acrobat Pro

Customer Review: Easy upgrade
Summary: 4 Stars

Installs painlessly, and works as expected. My only negative is the price is a bit high. There are less expensive pdf makers on the market if all you want to do is make pdf files. If you need more advanced features like editing, Adobe is the best choice.

Customer Review: Adobe Acrobat Pro Quality Product
Summary: 5 Stars

As one expects from Adobe, this is another great release from them. But, whatever you do, don't order this from their website. First, you'll pay more for it, and second, their customer service is terrible.

Customer Review: Great Product
Summary: 5 Stars

I use this on Windows 7 64-bit with no problems. I use the print to PDF feature to archive documents electronically. I use the optimizer to shrink the file size of PDFs that I need to email. Acrobat Professional also allows you to save copies PDF forms after filling them out (Acrobat Reader does not allow this). I recommend this product.

Customer Review: The Reference Standard
Summary: 5 Stars

A friend of mine from work asked me why his PDFed document looked so bad. I asked him what version of Acrobat he was using and he answered that he was using some freeware program. That was his problem. He e-mailed me his document and I PDFed it through my Adobe Actobat 9 product and the product was marvelous.

I can't say enoough great things about this product. It integrates with (on my computer):

- MS Word 2007
- MS Excel 2007
- MS Visio
- MS Project
- Explorer 8

Runs on Windows 7 and Integrates natively with my Adobe Illustrator CS4 and Photoshop CS4.

There are a lot of customizable functions in the product that allows you to create different quality PDFs and an ability to merge different PDFs into one PDF document. You can create forms too and send documents out for revisions from your users.

Is the product perfect? No. I must say that I've had problems with the Update feature from Adobe. Once, I had to reinstall my entire operating system to get it to work: that was a real bummer and I seriously urge Adobe to fix those problems with their updater programs.

However the product itself is great. In my opinion, accept no substitutes. Use Adobe Acrobat. It's the standard.

SHOULD YOU UPGRADE FROM ACROBAT 7?
- If you're going to Windows 7 -- YES, Acrobat 7 won't work with Windows 7
- If you're running any CS4 product -- YES, the updater issues alone are enough to upgrade

SHOULD YOU UPGRADE FROM ACROBAT 8?
- If you're running Windows 7 -- Depends, Acrobat 8 will work with Windows 7 (I had it running)
- If you're running any CS4 product -- YES, the updater issues alone are enough to upgrade
- If you're only using Acrobat 8 --- Depends, it really depends on if you're using some of the Adobe 9 specific features (mentioned in the sales documentation above).

Customer Review: Buyer Beware
Summary: 3 Stars

Personally I resort to creating html forms for internal purposes because I loathe using Acrobat for fillable forms. Acrobat's one strength is if you want to convert print reports etc to digital format. If thats the case there are a lot of free utilities that allow you to do this. If you for example want to convert a word doc to PDF or print something to a PDF file cutePDF writer is a free utility that can do this for you.

If you need to edit a PDF, however, you may need acrobat pro. There are alternative PDF editing applications out there but I have never used them so I cant really comment on how well they work. I upgraded to windows 7 and had issues trying to install Acrobat 8 I could not get it to install. You may need Acrobat 9 if you are on windows 7. I have heard some bad things about version 9 so buyer beware.
