Customer Review: Not user friendly - Must buy some books and study

I have been using MS Photodeluxe for a couple of years now, but it always felt like it was missing something. Everyone said buy Photoshop, but you'll need to take a class on it to understand it (and a loan to pay for the software). Along comes Photoshop Elements with the promise of professional level tools, low cost, and easy to use interface. I jumped on it and unfortunately am a bit disappointed. I will eventually figure it out (after reading some books), but really don't feel it lives up to its hype. The help system is an embarrasment and doesn't follow the standards you see in other windows programs. Within help you can only get basic information. The program was obviously designed for Mac users who spend a lot of time in front of the screen manipulating images. It is not designed for windows users (doesn't follow standard menu layouts) and is not friendly to MS Office applications (ex. Photoshop graphics that have been pasted into Word cannot be edited again in Photoshop... actually they probably can be, but I'm not going to spend another four hours trying to get it to happen). Don't buy it if you are not going to commit a lot of time to learn Adobe products. I thought the days of excessive studying to learn software were over, but Adobe doesn't think so.

This book is just what I was looking for to enable me to learn how to use Photoshop Elements. He takes you step-by-step through the techniques to accomplish whatever that lesson is about. I am so very pleased and excited to learn what the next chapter will hold. I highly recommend this book for any beginner...like me.

I have, and use, Photoshop 6 every day. At this point I'm supposed to say what a wonderful program it is but frankly, if you are just processing photos, Photoshop raises needless complexity to unimaginable heights. Interested in dot gain or 3/4 tones? I didn't think so.

Enter Photoshop Elements. Somebody at Adobe finally realized that photographers--even accomplished ones--want PHOTOshop not PRINTshop. PS Elements has everything you need (plus the inevitable dopey effects) in a genuinely easy to use package.

You won't see any 600+ page books on Photoshop Elements. They aren't needed. If you think about it, in a sane world Photoshop Elements would sell for [money]--because of its simplicity--and the full Photoshop would retail for [money].

Thank you, Adobe. Now how about a simplified version of GoLive....

Multiple undos like Photoshop. Easy to use as PhotoDeluxe. This is our dream editing program. Recipes quickly guide you through editing tasks. It took a while to set up scanner software to work but the book was a big help. Can you tell, I really like this program.
