Software Reviews of Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.0 [OLD VERSION]

Customer Review: Adobe Elements 4.0
Summary: 1 Stars

JUNK! I am a professional photographer and have used 2.0 for years for quick fixes and easy additions, thinking they might have made some improvements to make life easier... I was wrong. This program is a step back. I was a refund! I don't know who is writing they like this new version, but buyer beware! Laura

Customer Review: Step Up To Adobe PhotoShop Elements
Summary: 4 Stars

Even if one could afford the full PhotoShop CS or CS2, Elements has it all for the photo enthusiast. Elements has an uncluttered interface with two choices for photo manipulation;
Quick Fix and Standard Edit. The Browser is adequate though I've used simpler ones for organizing and finding photos. Many of the features of the full program can be found in Elements like Layers, plug-ins for effects, and a variety of adjustmens. With a little patience and experimenting, as well as magazines that include video tutorials for specific needs you'll be surprised how creative you can be. This program does not have the learning curve of the full PhotoShop software yet is more than powerful enough for the creative amateur photographer.

Customer Review: Beware AMD X2 owners
Summary: 2 Stars

I bought this program when I bought my new Nikon D50 so I could catalog the NEF files. It worked wonderfully on my 5 year old system but it was a little on the slow side. I decided to buy a new computer. An incredibly fast AMD X2 processor with 2 GB of RAM and a great nVidia 3d graphics card. I loaded PSE4 and it would crash on me. In the Adobe user forums an Adobe representative confirmed that the problem was the AMD X2 processor. Now I'm waiting for a patch or a new version to fix the errors. I REALLY like this program when it works correctly.

I would not hesitate to recommend this program to anyone who wants to catalog and edit pictures but does not want to step up to Photoshop CS2. However, I would recommend downloading the demo first and using it extensivly for the month of trial you get.

Customer Review: Photoshop Elements 4.0
Summary: 5 Stars

Excellent product. I highly recommend this for Digital Photographers and anyone working with scanned photo's. It doesn't have all of the bells and whistles of Photoshop CS2 but I don't need them. If you purchase this software then you have got to purchase "The Photoshop Elements 4 Book" by Scott Kelby. With these two items you can do just about anything you can imagine with a digital photo.

Customer Review: Lots Of Fun With A Few Glitches
Summary: 4 Stars

This version of Adobe Photoshop is full of cool tricks and some frustrating ones as well. I take a lot of underwater photos without a strobe, so the colors can be too blue or flat. The Photo Editor works great bringing back the original colors, contrasts and shadows. I don't like to change a photo too much and you can get very precise with any change you make. There are lots of ways to alter or manipulate photos here. The regular non-water photos also edit very well. The skin tone option is amazing and the `tagging' and `drag & drop' features are very easy. The learning curve was a bit much at first, but once you have a half dozen controls down, it gets easy very quickly. The slide show feature is what I truly bought this for and there are almost too many options. I try to keep the special effects to a minimum to not detract from the show. The blank slide feature with storyboard/text makes the show more entertaining and personal. The program does have its glitches. It takes quite a while to simply load Photoshop and I have a fast computer with tons of memory. The editor takes more time to load than I expected as well. I did have a few photos "fail" when I changed too much, but there is a `layer' feature that can prevent this. Everything is well organized and easy to find, however. With nothing else to compare this to, I'd say it's a good choice if you don't mind the download times.
