Software Reviews of Adobe Photoshop Elements 6 (Mac) [OLD VERSION]

Customer Review: Perfect for a Photoshop newbie
Summary: 4 Stars

I'm a Photoshop user newbie. I desperately wanted to edit my photos via my Macbook. And since I have no experience in that area, I just wanted a simple yet affordable software. I did a little research and came across Photo Elements 6. I've read some reviews about it, which I find really helpful. I thought it was perfect for me and finally decided to buy it.
I've been using it continuously for a month now. I've researched on a few tutorials and even bought The Missing Manual for Photoshop Elements for Mac 6 (which I think is also very helpful for first-timers). So far, I'm satisfied with my choice. Perfect for beginners, for simple, not too complicated editing, with the addition of Bridge program that came with it.
One time, as I was going over some tutorials on the Adobe Photoshop CS3, I noticed some tools/features was missing in PE6, which I needed to use to get the outcome I wanted. So I played around with the tools and experimented with the program a little bit, until I discovered I really didn't need that missing tool because it was possible to do it with just a different approach/style in editing. I still came up with the exact outcome I wanted. I realized I just had to get the hang of familiarizing myself with the PE6 cool features.

I bought this program several months ago, excited at the idea of being able to edit my beloved photos in ways that the iPhoto cannot. I tried and tried, and cannot for the life of me figure out how to use this program! There is no manual included[...]. I consider myself to be pretty computer and Mac savvy, but to no avail. I even installed this other program that I guess needs to be installed in order to use the Elements, the Bridge program, but even that leaves me baffled. I thought this was supposed to be fun and easy! I wanted desperately to take the photos I have with flash reflections on shiny surfaces, and remove those bright spots. I worked on this for about an hour one day, and gave up. I am just a person who loves to take my photos and enhance them so they look good, not a professional photographer, so I don't understand why this program is impossible for me. For now, I'm sticking with my iPhoto capabilities.

Customer Review: Excellent program
Summary: 5 Stars

Program is very easy to use. If you enjoy photography it is an excellent complement which can make a poor shot into much more presentable picture.

Photoshop Elements is something that I must have, but the interface gets worse with each new release. In version 4 they added a palette across the top with buttons that I never use. Everything there is in a menu just above it, so why waste valuable screen space? The palette has icons for actions. You shouldn't use icons for verbs; that is so unMac-like. Icons are for nouns. The menus have English verbs which my brain can very quickly identify. Okay, some people like the palettes, but every other good Mac program will let you remove unwanted palettes. Not so in Photoshop Elements 4. It just sucks. In version 6 it gets worse. That same useless palette is at the top. But now there is a huge one to the right called palette bin which again I rarely use that consumes 20%-25% of the screen! There is a button that will hide it, but even though I have the "remember palette locations" preference checked, every time I open a file in Photoshop Elements, that palette reappears. Every time. That is so annoying. What kind of idiot designed that? Then they changed the appearance of the interface. It is all tiny white text against a grey background. It looks so much like a PC interface that it makes me sick. It's hard to read. It is unlike all other Mac application interfaces. It just sucks. I need to find an alternative to Photoshop.

Good product...easier to use than PHE 4 and does a heck of a lot more than iphoto. It also is quicker than previous Ps products. It does just about everything thing Ps does.

one area to be careful..if you have the trail ver. you can not just load the purchased vers. you have to delete it (properly). highly recommend PSE 6 mac
