Customer Review: Long time Photoshop User - Really liking Lightroom 2
Summary: 5 Stars

I've been using Adobe Photoshop for many years in my profession and personal use and currently use Photoshop CS3.

I did not know exactly how Lightroom 2 would fit into my software toolkit. It was more out of necessity that I even started looking at Lightroom. Photoshop CS3 does not support Canon 7D RAW files and Lightroom 2.6 does. The last thing I wanted was a watered down Photoshop RAW application. So after a few online videos and reading of reviews I made my purchase.

Now I am not a pro at Lightroom (yet) but I am impressed with its effective array of image adjustment tools it is empowered with. The strengths (for me) lay in the Develop Tab. There is a level of control here that is complete, effective, and efficient. Since Lightroom is not a complete set of editing tools like Photoshop, it's tool set list is short but their application is broad. The fact that all edits are non destructive and can be edited or deleted later is very impressive.

I will say this, I think it's important to note that you could produce the same results in Photoshop CS3 or CS4. The big difference is Lightroom is a focused application and its simplified layout and work flow makes any adjustment faster, more immediate. An all around speedier process. You aren't working with adjustment layers or layers at all as you would in Photoshop. As mentioned already, edits are non destructive.

Lightroom tool set is in no way a replacement for Photoshop and in fact if anything they are complimentary.

I personally have made little or no use for the Preset, Catalog, Slideshow, Print or Web features in Lightroom. My goal was to read Canon 7D RAW images for edit and I'm very pleased with its capacity to edit those. Also worth noting is that the disk has a 64Bit install if you are using Vista64 or Win764.

If you are a photographer who isn't looking to spend big on Photoshop. If your goal is for minor edits Red Eye Reduction, Spot removal (ie: photoshop Clone/Healing brush) + a strong suite color adjustment tools, I think Lightroom is great app to consider.

Customer Review: Love Lightroom II, you will too!
Summary: 5 Stars

Adobe Photoshop Lightroom II is amazing photo processing software. This coming from one who has NOT used Photoshop previously, for my primary photo processing software. Years ago, Microsoft had a little program called Microsoft Digital Imaging and although they abandoned the program awhile ago, it has served me well, even through Windows upgrades...right through Windows 7. Therefore, aside from "light" exposure to Photoshop, it has not been my photo conversion software of choice, although I recognize it is, for hobbyist as well as professional photographers.

Thinking that this lack of experience with Photoshop might be a hinderance, I bought two guides for the program. The books will serve as an additional resource as time goes on, but were not necessary in learning the workflow. The software inspires creativity through refinement and enhancement, as you master the basics and develop your own rhythm and flow to processing your digital photography. The modules and tabs are easy to understand and logical. The results have been spectacular.
The greatest feature, thus far, is the exposure enhancement brush that allows you to isolate dark, light and specific areas and literally "lift" details out of obscurity, without changing the exposure of the entire photograph. It is fantastic! I highly recommend this program to hobbyist and professionals alike.

Customer Review: The Sync Developing Settings Feature alone is huge time saver!
Summary: 4 Stars

The sync developing feature is a time saver compared to Photoshop. If you got a bunch of photos done in almost identical lighting conditions, studio or beach, you can fine-tune the develop settings on one image, select all images, and click "Synchronize". This feature is especially valuable for editing multi-shot panoramas, as described in this book:

Panoramic & Stereoscopic Photography In Color And Infrared: A Step By Step Guide

Customer Review: Amazing Product
Summary: 4 Stars

Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2 is the best product I've ever used for editing photos. While it doesn't have the drilled down specificity of Adobe Photoshop, this product allows photographers to edit a quantity of photographs quickly, accurately and precisely. I couldn't live without it.
