Software Reviews of Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2Customer Review: RAW editting using Lightroom 2.2 Summary: 5 StarsI used the FREE version of this software before ADOBE bought it and turned it into Lightroom. This latest version of Lightroom has some very useful improvements that make this RAW photo editting software great for post-processing of digital photos. There are still a few things that require other photo editors to accomplish and there are plenty of features that I won't use, but for the majority of my photo editting, Lightroom 2.2 is the only software I need. I also recommed veiwing as many online videos about the software as you can to understand how to benefit from all the features available.
Customer Review: huge difference for me Summary: 5 StarsI enjoy the ease of achieving photos I am satisfied with thanks to this product. I'm not one who finds computer work intuitive, but Lightroom 2 (with the Scott Kelby book) makes it a very pleasant experience. I use PSE6 occasionally for some editing tasks but most of the time LR2 does it all.
Customer Review: Just what the photographer ordered Summary: 4 StarsAdobe Lightroom 2 was everything I expected plus more. Having worked in an Elements 4 background, Lightroom was a welcome replacement. It's intuitive cataloging and sorting features were easy to manage.
Some may prefer to perform elaborate computational manupulations that only CS4 can deliver. I found the Develop menu was simple yet comprehensive enough to fit my needs of basic photo editing so that more time could be spent photographing.
Lightroom 2 was just what this photographer needed.
Customer Review: Close to the perfect organizer/editor Summary: 5 StarsMy wife is a semi-professional photographer, concentrating on photos as art. I am a serious amatuer who has thousands of digital images that have never been catagorized or edited (half of them Raw and half or them Jpegs). My wife has always edited with Photoshop, starting with Photoshop 1. She is a MAC user and won't even consider working on a PC unless she has to. I have always used PCs; never had a MAC. She started using the beta of Lightroom when it was first made available. She would always tell me how good it was and I would ask, what does it do that Photoshop, doesn't? I never got a convincing answer but when Lightroom 2 came out and she was using it on our most recent trip, I decided I would put the trial edition on my Laptop and was blown away at the start. I've always thought Photoshop was a little difficult and tedious. Photography is not my day job and I don't have time to work
an hour on an image to get it "just right". Lightroom is so easy to use and intuitive that it makes Photoshop necessary only for alterations of the images. Plain editing can be done in a snap; things like exposure, white balance, sharpening, spot removal are all able to be adjusted within seconds. Marking the photos, sorting them, captioning and catagorizing is all easy and accessable with a few mouse movements.
As soon as the trial was about to expire, I bought the full program and stopped griping that it was just a big Photoshop Plug-in and shouldn't cost $300. In fact, it's a better program in a lot of ways than Photoshop and Adobe is entitled to the bucks for developing it.
Customer Review: Excellent tool for professionals and enthusiasts. Summary: 4 StarsIt should first be noted that this software is not for the lite home user looking for a quick way to remove red-eye or crop the holiday photos. The tools and navigation is very much intuitive for those familiar with Adobe's other photo editing products (especially Photoshop and Illustrator), but will have a learning curve for new users.
The workflows are reason enough to pick up this title if you do a lot of photo editing/cataloging.
Mac users can actually rely on iPhoto '08 or higher for many of the functionalities of this application, but the saturation, exposure, and color controls fall more in line with Aperature's capabilities, so you'll really want to evaluate your needs or savvy before picking this up. PC users have a few options but aside from GIMP, most are separate purchases that don't really line up with this application's capabilities.
It should also be noted that this is by no means a full, or near, Photoshop tool suite. For photo modification, graphics, textures and other features, you'll want to pick up Photoshop itself.
Users of the prior edition can expect an improved workflow set and quicker rendering with the appropriate system requirements.
The only thing holding this application back from 5 stars from me is the price point. It's a rather high price to pay for the feature set if you aren't a photo professional or enthusiast. Mac users especially have better dollar-per-feature options.
