Software Reviews of Adobe Premiere Elements 3.0 [OLDER VERSION]Customer Review: Will not play my video clips - "Not compatible with my Codec" Summary: 1 StarsI was so excited to get Premier Elements so that I could edit all my little video clips that I've been recording over the past couple of years. I quickly found out that I could get audio but only gray screen for video. After 2 days of troubleshooting I finally called Adobe to be told that Premier Elements was not compatible with my Camera's codec. Every other software including "freeware - WMP & Quicktime" have no problem playing my videos but Premier Elements is not compatible? I was told I needed to open the clips in Windows Movie Maker (which by the way is free with windows xp & vista) and convert them to another format. What a pain in the rear!!! The only benefit that I got from Adobe Premier Elements was learning that I have a free copy of Windows Movie Maker on my computer. What do I need Premiere Elements for? This is a total disappointment!
I'm getting a new camera next week. I'm curious to see Premier Elements will be compatible with its codec.
Customer Review: Great movie editor and DVD creator Summary: 4 StarsPros: Program is very useful for beginners, intermediate and expert users. Depending on your desire to do a simple movie with little effort, with basic transitions or to spend a lot of time creating movies with the professional look, you can do it all. I'm just beginning to address some of the many possibilities which seem to be endless.
Cons: I'm unable to see the real time video using the Monitor (video is too choppy), even after rendering it. The only way for me to see the clip in real time, is to export it to an AVI file and view it Windows Media Player. Then going back to further edit the movie if needed.
I currently have a Dell desktop with XP-SP2, 512MB Memory, 1.6MHZ CPU 250GB hard disk with 45GB available. Planning on increasing memory to 1GB, hoping that it will help.
Customer Review: Caveat emptor Summary: 3 StarsI'm being generous with the 3 stars. I'm really not happy with this product, but some of it is my fault, so I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt. What's my fault? My computer and it don't get along. I would note, however, that my computer meets the minimum specs for the software. That being said, the guys at the Geek Squad told me that the minumum requirements will get you off the ground, but to really fly you need a faster processor than my pentium 4. The software has never really worked well for me- when editing I get an error icon at the bottom that says my video card returned an error and I should reset the playback settings. Problem is, the software won't let me do that, or when I do it ignores it. I looked up the problem on Adobe forums, and there are lots of other people who have the same problem. Nobody seems to be able to figure it out. I'm not about to spend lots of money trying new video cards or other fixes to get a sixty dollar software package to work. But what I really don't like about this software is the package of effects and transitions and templates it comes with. I find them very unappealing and there's not much I would use there. I think the program is pretty easy to use though, and it works well for me in terms of capturing video and converting to different formats. It's the editing part that I don't like. I use Microsoft Movie Maker (Free software) for the editing (see an example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OC6Gg3z1Am4), and then convert the files to MPEG with this software. Movie maker has its own problems, but overall I'm happier with THAT thatn with this, and I paid nothing for Movie Maker but blew sixty bucks on this. Not a mint, but it adds up when you keep trying software that doesn't quite do it for you. Premiere is, I'm told, the industry standard, but the elements version is stripped of all but the basics and doesn't run well on older computers (mine's going on four years old now). When I get a new computer I'm going to give the Pinnacle software a shot if my problems with this software continue.
Customer Review: Love the GUI but it is SLOW! Summary: 3 StarsI have been using Adobe Premier Elements 2.0 and now 3.0 for a couple of years now and I think it is a super feature rich program that is great for the advanced home user. Once I bought a new laptop with 1GB or memory, etc...I and went with version 3.o I had high hopes of no more slow, bogged down, hanging and crashing of the program.
I had to learn to hit the save button every minute or so or after any changes as to not lose anything! 3.0, even under Vista seemed a bit better in the beginning but now that I am working on a sizable DVD for my son's baseball team I am back to the frustration of a creeping program and frequent "Not Responding" messages and out-right crashes!
Now after needing to work with MPEG-4 (MP4) video files I am about ready to give up. Adobe does not support this product so I am left to use those horrific forums and "knowledge databases". I was only able to import and edit MP4 files after FIRST saving them to Apple QuickTime .mov before importing. If I imported the MP4 file I could NOT get the sound to work. I could see the sound "waves" in the preview frame but NO SOUND in the timeline/storyboard.
I am about to install it now on a new desktop, screaming fast with 2GB of memory, so I will update my feedback later. In the meantime, I am going to test out Sony Vegas software!
Customer Review: A POX on Adobe Summary: 1 StarsAdobe Photoshop Elements 5.0/Premier Elements 3.0 [LB]
I recently re-installed Photoshop Elements 4.0 and the newly acquired Premier Elements 3.0. My computer technician had advised me to uninstall Elements 4.0 several months ago since we were both having severe problems with my computer (operating system Windows XP Pro). I followed his advice, and after many hours of his time, he was able to clean up my computer and make it functional. While I followed his advice, I did not feel that the Adobe program was the source of the problem. I was determined to use the product. When I was able to acquire Premier, I installed both programs. Possibly a co-incident, but both DVD drives became inoperative, and the AV program would no longer function. Several hours were required to correct this situation. Who knows what mysteries lurk with the computer, and I realize that others are using these programs with various degrees of success. I cannot give a rousing recommendation.
