Software Reviews of Adobe Premiere Elements 4 [OLD VERSION]

Customer Review: Bloated, buggy POS (Piece of Software)
Summary: 1 Stars

I purchased this a while ago, but haven't use it until recently.... What can I say.... At first glance - the typical bloated software that comes from Adobe - takes forever to load (I run it on a fairly new dual core 2.2 GHz machine with 2 Gigs of RAM), but I am used to this type of slowness coming from Adobe (it is the same with their Acrobat, Photoshop etc.... - they had to create a special, permanently running in backgrounds module of software in order to avoid the unpleasant waiting....). What really got me is that this never actually worked for larger videos. Initially I used it for relatively small videos (10-15 min total) and it was OK. Once I started creating an hour long video by adding several 1-5 min. clips, it crashed. Application just closed, without any message or warning!. Tried several times, it ALWAYS crashed. This software is totally useless.
Finally, I gave up and tried the free Movie Maker that comes with Windows - It worked like a charm. Maybe it is not as powerful and fancy, but it works, and it did not cost me 70 bucks!

Customer Review: PRODUCT AS ADVERTISED
Summary: 4 Stars

Upon receipt of this product, I was concerned. The box was not in good condition and appeared as though it may have been opened previously. In addition, my order form indicated it was sold by Galactics while the invoice accompanying the product indicated it was sold by NothingButSoftware. I considered returning the product unopened. I did, however, load the software and have had no problems with it.

Customer Review: USELESS PRODUCT
Summary: 1 Stars

I downloaded PE4, and gave it a spin test for 30 days beginning of '08. I had a MISERABLY BAD EXPERIENCE with this product.

I am running XP, but only have 1 GB RAM. This might have been the main problem. Everytime I tried to maximize the PE4 window, it would lock up. It does NOT handle my Sony M2TS files, though the newer edition might. I found a m2ts plugin, which is decent, but then I could work on only 1 clip at a time. 1 min m2ts clip, would take about 10 mins to process. It was very slow and useless.

It seems to me these Adobe people are more concencerned with whatever features they can list on the package, rather than how well the program runs internally.

Ended up running Super/VD. Super is a great FREE converter program, and will convert m2ts to DivX/AVI flawlessly. VirtualDub is a great FREE video editor. VD is cool for editing your avi files, joining, splitting, deshaking, rgb, etc. However, VD is not a DVD burner. Super/VD combo work great on just 1 MB RAM. I have edited my 1440x1080 m2ts files flawlessly with Super/VD.

Once I get a puter with more RAM, I will give them another 30 days FREE spin, and see if they've gotten better.

Customer Review: Promises to work with JVC Everio, but doesn't
Summary: 1 Stars

The box promises to support JVC Everio format MOD, but continually crashes when try to use these formats. I have talked with technical support several times. They have offered one solution, removing a plug-in which didn't help much. No other solution is offered except converting using another video editing program which makes Premiere pointless. Adobe doesn't fix the bugs in their programs they only offer a new version that you have to pay for.

Customer Review: Great features, If only would stay running
Summary: 1 Stars

Great features but it's extremely slow to load and is terribly buggy. On an HD project with four layers and keyframes, it's utterly unusable due to crashing. I've gotten weird behavior, errors during renders and, worst of all, shutdowns. It is unusable since it now takes approximately 2 minutes to load and I get a major crash within a few minutes of trying to do anything useful.

I've got three fast hard drives and 3 Gb of RAM on Win XP so you'd think that would be enough.

It would be an incredible program if it could keep running.
